The Boston Pizza RDP Athlete of the Week for February 24, 2025
Lauren Junck, a third-year outside hitter, was a key cog in the Queens’ bronze medal performance at the 2025 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Volleyball Championship in Camrose.
On Thursday, Junck had a game-high 14 kills, along with two service aces, two digs and a block, helping the RDP Queens sweep the NAIT Ooks (25-21, 25-16 and 25-22).
In Friday’s semi-final, Red Deer’s Junck contributed eight kills, seven digs, two blocks and one ace in a four-set defeat to the Lakeland College Rustlers.
As the championship progressed, Junck’s impact grew. In the bronze medal match, the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student accumulated a game-high 16 kills (0.619). She added four service aces and four digs, helping the RDP Queens defeat The King’s University Eagles in straight sets (29-27, 25-23 and 25-21) and earn bronze.
Junck was named to the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament All-Star team for her outstanding contributions. Prior to the start of the championship, Junck was recognized as the ACAC Women’s Volleyball South Player of the Year and a member of the South All-Conference team.

The Boston Pizza RDP Athlete of the Week for January 13, 2025
This past weekend, Red Deer’s Lauren Junck had a dominant performance for the first place RDP Queens Volleyball team (9-2). The talented, third-year outsider hitter contributed a total of 46 kills, 12 digs, 10 service aces and two stuff blocks in a pair of home victories against the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks.
On Friday, Junck led both teams with 23 kills while recording an impressive 0.474 hitting percentage. She added five digs and four service aces in the Queens’ five-set victory (17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-10). Junck was recognized as the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.
Then on Saturday, Junck accumulated 23 kills, seven digs, six service aces and two stuff blocks in the Polytechnic’s four-set decision over the Kodiaks (25-16, 20-25, 25-18 and 27-25).
Junck is among the league’s top offensive producers, ranking second in total kills (154) and kills per set (3.58).
Junck and the RDP Queens will be back in action on Friday, January 24 when they face the Rattlers in Medicine Hat.

The Boston Pizza RDP Athlete of the Week for November 18, 2024
This past Friday, outside hitter Lauren Junck played a prominent role in the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team defeating the Concordia University Thunder in four sets (25-15, 25-10, 20-25 and 25-16).
The talented Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student contributed 16 points (13 kills, two service aces and one stuff block) in the road victory. Red Deer’s Junck was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game for her impactful contributions.
Over 20 sets, Junck has averaged 3.25 kills (0.407), 1.35 digs and 0.40 service aces per set this season.
The RDP Queens (3-2) rank second in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Volleyball South Division.
Junck and the Queens will play The King’s University Eagles and Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves on the road this weekend.
