The Granary Kitchen RDP Athlete of the Week for February 14, 2022
Setter Maddux Greves had a record breaking weekend for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team. In Thursday’s three set victory over the Ambrose University Lions (25-15, 25-11 and 25-15), the talented fourth-year recorded an astounding 14 service aces. This incredible feat eclipsed the previous 20 year old Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) record of 12 aces in one match, held by Curtis Russel of the Keyano College Huskies (2001/2002). Medicine Hat College’s Cory Wlos also had 12 aces in one match back in 1993/1994. In addition to his serving prowess, Greves added 24 assists and three digs and was recognized as the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.
The Business Administration General student from Calgary continued his strong play in Lethbridge on Saturday. Greves ran an effective offence and contributed 52 assists, eight digs, six kills and two aces in the Kings’ four set win (25-22, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-18). Once again, he was named the RDP Kings Player of the Game.
Greves will be an important student-athlete for the Kings (12-4) as they compete at the upcoming ACAC Championship.

The Granary Kitchen Red Deer Polytechnic Athlete of the Week for November 15, 2021
Maddux Greves had a good weekend on the court, helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team earn two match victories against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The six-foot-three setter accumulated 44 assists, 10 digs, four service aces and one kill in the four set road decision on Friday (20-25, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22). Greves was named the Kings Player of the Game for his efforts.
On Sunday, the fourth-year was instrumental in helping the defending Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) champions sweep the Kodiaks at Red Deer Polytechnic (25-17, 25-15, 26-24). He totaled 28 assists, four aces, four digs, and one kill in the home win. The Business Administration General student went about his craft in a calm and collected manner. Since transferring from SAIT, he has assumed a leadership role and has already made a positive impact on the team.
