The Granary Kitchen RDP Athlete of the Week for February 22, 2022

Daniel Szucs was an important member of the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Indoor Track team this past Saturday at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. The talented third-year runner helped his squad place first at Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix #2 with 60 team points.

The Bachelor of Business Administration General Management student was a member of the Kings 4 x 400 m relay team (Devin Saunders, Kevin Edmondson and Ethan Duret) that finished with the fastest time (3:47.01).

Individually, Szucs captured top spot in the men’s 1,500 m (4:13.82) and 3,000 m finals (9:10.95). Each first place finish contributed 10 points to the Kings’ total.

Lacombe’s Szucs and the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Indoor Track team will now focus on the ACAC Indoor Track Championships from March 26-27.

RDC Athlete of the Week for Jan. 27, 2020

Lacombe’s Dan Szucs kicked off the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track season on the right foot in Edmonton. The talented runner helped lead the Red Deer College Kings to a first place team finish at Running Room Grand Prix #1. Dan contributed 16 of the Kings’ 67 points and his individual contributions only trailed standout Leonard Chesoo (20 points) from Concordia University. The Business Administration General Management student (4:27.96) placed second in the men’s 1,500 m and second (9:25.06) over 3,000 m. Red Deer College will host Running Room Grand Prix #2 on Saturday, March 7.

RDC Athlete of the Week for Sept. 30, 2019

This past Saturday, Daniel had a tremendous race for the Kings Cross Country Running team at Running Room Grand Prix #4 in Calgary. Despite the snowy and cool weather conditions, the Business Administration General Management student put forth an outstanding effort, helping lead the Kings to first place as a group among participating Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) male teams. The runner from Lacombe was the fastest member of the RDC Kings, completing the 8 km race in 28:42. His impressive time placed him third overall in the ACAC men’s category, only 31 seconds behind first place Michio Green from the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings. Daniel will compete in the Willamette Charles Bowles Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, October 5 in Oregon.
