The Boston Pizza RDP Athlete of the Week for January 13, 2025
Joel Favreau, Kings Hockey goaltender, made the most of his opportunity against the SAIT Trojans, not allowing a goal in more than 75 minutes of play. The first-year Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student made a total of 39 saves which included a shutout against the Trojans on Saturday.
With the third place Kings (8W-5L-1 OTL) trailing the Trojans on Friday, Favreau replaced his teammate in net early in the third period and turned aside all 12 shots. Despite the Kings dropping a 7-4 decision, Prince Albert’s Favreau demonstrated outstanding goaltending and gave his team a spark.
On Saturday, the talented netminder recorded his first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) start and shutout, turning aside all 27 shots and helping the RDP Kings earn a 4-0 home victory over the first place SAIT Trojans (11W-2L-1 OTL). This was only SAIT’s second loss in regulation time this season. Favreau was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.
Favreau and the Kings will face the NAIT Ooks in a home-and-home series this weekend.
