The Queens continue their winning ways against the Kodiaks

Raymond, October 16 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team got a brief idea on what it's going to be like at the 2022 ACAC Championship on October 27-30.

The Queens battled with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in Raymond, AB at Comet Stadium where the Kodiaks will be hosting conference championships.

Red Deer opened up the game early with a goal from defender Sofia Quinteros at the eighth minute mark of the first half. This would be her third goal of the season and it would go unassisted.

But the Kodiaks came right back with a goal of their own. Midfielder Olivia DePasquale sent Ashley Sazalski on a breakaway and would put it past Queens goalie Abby Kotyk to tie the match at one.

This would do it for the scoring in the first half. The Queens would outshoot the Kodiaks nine to six.

Kicking off the second half, the Queens came out with energy and started to really pressure the Kodiaks. This would lead to Quinteros' second goal of the match and her fourth on the season. The goal went unassisted and would put the Queens up 2-1.

Later on in the match, Kodiaks forward Bryce Sherring was sent on a breakaway and puts a shot on goal but this time Kotyk comes diving out of her net to make the big save. 

Estel Quinteros would take a corner kick at the 86^th minute mark. 30 seconds later, Jenica Swartz (Bachelor of Science Pre-Med) put it home for her ninth of the season with a pass from defender Kailey Clark.

The Kodiaks would add a late one in the 89^th minute after Jayna Timiniski put it home to make it 3-2. DePasquale would get her second assist on the match.

The Queens came out with a 3-2 win over the Kodiaks and extend their winning streak to nine games now.

After scoring two goals for the Queens, Quinteros was awarded the player of the game. Welby got the honor for the Kodiaks,

Rookie Sein Furuyama did not get on the scoresheet and still sits two goals back of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Single Season Goal Record.

The Queens will travel to Medicine Hat to take on the Rattlers tomorrow October 16. Kickoff will be at noon.
