RDP Kings make quick work of the SAIT Trojans

Calgary, January 27, 2023 – Like a lot of the other teams inside RDP Athletics, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team put their 11-match winning streak to the test against the SAIT Trojans in Calgary.

The Kings came out fast and hot in their first set against the Trojans in Calgary. They knew SAIT was going to be tough despite their record, so they came out on all cylinders to start the match. The Kings would take the first set 25-16 after middle Spencer Purdie and outside Noah Carlson (Open Studies) closed their block on the Trojans attack.

It was a much closer game in the second set. But the Kings were able to hold a lead from start to finish. Nearing the end of the set some great diving saves from both sides of the court led to a point for the hometown team to keep them alive in the second set. Even though RDP kept the lead from the get-go, the Trojans still battled and fought off three set points, but Carlson ended their hope for a comeback, wiping the ball off the block for the 25th point.

The Kings came out to play traditional RDP-quality volleyball right from the first point to the 25th point. They came out fast, tough, and swinging in the third set to take the set 25-15. It was a straight-set victory for the Kings and would extend their winning streak to 12 games. It was another beautiful two-man block by RDP to end the set and match.

Outside-hitter Colby Nemeth (Bachelor of Commerce) was named the player of the game for the Kings as he was fiery and tough to block in the power position.

These two teams will head to Red Deer to battle in a rematch as the Kings host the Trojans with an 8 pm start time.
