New coach to lead the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball program

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Basketball team will have a new leader starting in the 2026-27 season. Anthony Skepple has been named the head coach of the RDP Kings. “I am excited to welcome Anthony to RDP,” says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. “Along with his wealth of post-secondary playing and coaching experience, Anthony has the ability to bring out the best of the student-athletes, both on and off the court.” Skepple coached the Briercrest College Clippers Women’s Basketball team from 2020-25, leading the squad to a pair of ACAC bronze medals. He was also named the 2023 ACAC Women’s Basketball South Coach of the Year after helping the Clippers improve to 13-8 from 4-12 the previous season.

The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Basketball team will see new leadership on the sidelines in January 2026 following the departure of head coach Jedell Foster. Stepping into the role of head coach is Tim McLenahan, while Rob Blais joins the program as assistant coach.

With two returning student-athletes, the Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Basketball team enters the 2025-26 season as a youthful but determine squad, ready to make its mark in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). “We’re a very young and athletic group—eager to learn and committed to getting better every day,” says Jedell Foster, Head Coach of the RDP Kings Basketball team.

As the preseason wraps up, Jedell Foster, Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Basketball Head Coach, is excited about the progress his team has made, particularly with the new recruits stepping up to the challenge in the 2024/2025 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). “Preseason training has been going great,” says Foster. “The new group of guys is really gelling well together and improving every day.” With a focus on building for the future, Coach Foster has been particularly impressed with the five first-year student-athletes. He has seen consistent progress from his recruits—Payton Green (Calgary), Felix Webb (Open Studies), Zayne Vernon (Hamilton, ON), Samuel Idemudia (Open Studies) and Iwinosa Idemudia (Leduc). According to Foster, they are improving each day and that's all he can ask for from his recruits.

Four members of the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Basketball teams have been acknowledged by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) for their exceptional play.Queens fifth-year guard Sandra Garcia-Bernal was named ACAC Women’s Basketball South Player of the Year and a First All-Conference team selection. Teammate Heena Sidhu made the ACAC Women’s Basketball Second All-Conference team. Kings guard Deandre Rowe was honoured as ACAC Men’s Basketball South Rookie of the Year. RDP’s Jose Mauro earned a spot on the Men’s Basketball Second All-Conference team.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings showed resiliency against the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings Saturday evening in ACAC Men's Basketball action. Down nine points at the half, the Kings found an extra gear in the latter two quarters and downed the Vikings 71-68 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Despite a second-half push, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens fell by one point against the Briercrest College Clippers to end their weekend with two straight losses for the first time this season. The Kings would fall in their fourth straight game as they were not able to capitalize on the last second three-point opportunity to tie it up at 90. Guard Sandra Garcia-Bernal broke the all-time Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) steals record with her nine steals in this afternoon’s 70-55 win over the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. She also dropped a team-high 20 points in the win. On the men’s side, the Kings saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end with the Kodiaks defeating RDP 101-87 to split the season series between the two schools.
