RDP Athletics Recap

The Red Deer Polytechnic Volleyball teams defeated the Ambrose University Lions. The RDP Basketball squads dropped their games to the Lions. The RDP Indoor Track team had a strong showing at Running Room Grand Prix #2.

Here is a summary of the recent results: 

Indoor Track

Running Room Grand Prix #2 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, February 14 | 8 am

Both the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Indoor Track teams placed first at Running Room Grand Prix #2. There were also several top-three finishes by RDP student-athletes.

Jack Steeves (9:57.08) placed second in the men's 3,000 m. Juliana Chipiuk (11:12.88) captured top spot and Georgia Sawchuk (11:33.52) ranked second in the women's 3,000 m. Kohen Meckelborg (2:42.24) was third in the men's 1,000 m. He (1:26.83) also placed third in the 600 m. In the women's 1,000 m, Kira Main (3:30.67) sealed second. Japhet Kipkosgei (4:16.33) wrapped up second in the men's 1,500 m. Julianna Chipiuk (5:14.79) was second and Lily Dodd (5:16.98) placed third in the women's 1,500 m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (1:39.36) finished third in the men's 4 x 200 m relay. They (3:45.61) also ranked second in the men's 4 x 400 m relay. The RDP Queens (1:53.05) solidified second in the women's 4 x 200 m relay. The Queens (4:21.12) also placed second in the women's 4 x 400 m relay.

 

 

Volleyball

Queens at Lions | Friday, February 13 | 6 pm

The second seed Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team (15-2) defeated the fourth place Ambrose University Lions (9-10) in four sets (25-18, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-13). Red Deer's Nadia McKeage led the Queens offensively with 17 kills.

Kings at Lions | Friday, February 13 | 8 pm

The second place RDP Kings Volleyball squad (15-2) downed the fourth seed Ambrose University Lions (9-10) in straight sets (25-21, 25-19 and 25-14). Dante Furlan (Bachelor of Business Administration) contributed six kills, three digs, one block and one ace.

Basketball

Queens vs. Lions | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, February 13 | 6 pm

The Queens Basketball team dropped an 89-48 decision to the Ambrose University Lions. Sylvan Lake's Kira Main contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and a steal for the Polytechnic.

Queens at Lions | Saturday, February 14 | 6 pm

The sixth-seed Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (5-14) were downed 80-70 by the fourth-place Lions (8-11) on the road. Kaylee Foster (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) led the Queens with 16 points.

Kings vs. Lions | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, February 13 | 8 pm

The RDP Kings Basketball team fell 88-67 to the Ambrose University Lions at home. William Tcherkachine (Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies) had 19 points for the Kings.

Kings at Lions | Saturday, February 14 | 8 pm

The third-place Lions (11-8) got by the seventh-seed Kings (2-17) by a 101-72 margin. Noah Simon scored 23 points for RDP.
